What is the Great Adventure Challenge?::
This year teams will navigate their way through our unique and exciting race course at Lake Macquarie, NSW Central Coast. From sunrise to sunset, you will
experience 6 – 9 hours of a course which will comprise a range of disciplines:
Mountain Biking – 35km approx prodomately off road. A mixture of fire trails and single track where available. Nothing too technical.
Trail running - 15km approx - a mixture of fire trails and walking tracks with a bit of cross country thrown in for good measure.
Kayaking - 10km approx - in two person sit on top kayaks. Generally in protected waters.
Coasteering - 2km approx - hugging the shore line on foot finding the best route around, over and under obstacles. May involve some water jumps or short swims.
Mystery Tasks - Teams will meet mystery tasks at different points of the course, testing both the brain and body.
Navigation - Adventurers will need to hone their navigation skills to help them collect all the checkpoints in the minimum time possible.
Vital fundraising – Time bonuses will be awarded for achieving certain pre set fundraising targets.
The team with who has completed the challenge in the quickest time, plus or minus any time bonuses, will be presented with the prestigious Great Adventure Challenge Cup.
Each Adventurer Team consists of 8 members, which must include at least one person from the opposite sex. At any one time there will be 4 team members on the course whilst the remaining 4 will act as "support crew".
At transitions, the teams recharge, review strategy and rotate who is on the course and who is in the support crew.
Support crew role is to prepare food to sustain the team, manage the gear and clothing, and importantly motivate and support their Adventurer team mates.
